After analyzing and comparing different environmental work frameworks, we decided to follow the framework established by the United Nations: the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals). These goals bring together 17 global axes through which we can build a more sustainable and favourable future for all.
What are our SDGs?
By adhering to this framework designed by the United Nations, we place sustainable development at the heart of our business. To contribute to this, we decided to focus primarily on SDGs 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), 11 (Sustainable City and Community), 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), 13 (Climate Change Measures) and 17 (Partnerships to Achieve the Goals).
In Europe, 27% of trucks drive empty (OECD) and each kilometer has an impact on our environment. As our population and consumption increase, the problem of empty kilometers is getting worse. We are facing a significant inefficiency problem, and our planet is paying the price.
How can we reduce empty kilometers?
Promoting delivery routes, optimizing the volume of vehicles in order to avoid leaving them partially filled, grouping deliveries into a single trip will have a significant impact on transport costs and on the environment.
In order to reduce our carbon footprint and thus contribute to the fight against climate change, accurate measurement of CO2 emissions will be the first element of our sustainable strategy. We aim to quantify the pollution flows of a delivery and to identify the levers to reduce them.
How can we measure our emissions?
We will also collect and estimate CO2 emissions information from our partner delivery partners during their shopping trips. We also want to set up a system for combining deliveries located in the same area in order to reduce the carbon impact of trips. The idea is also to send this information back to the consumer in order to raise their awareness.
Allowing a large network of independent delivery people to have access to reliable activity and service at Shippr is a guarantee of sustainability. This requires prosperous working conditions, a perspective of development in their activity as well as fair remuneration.
How to implement an indexed fair price?
For more fairness in the delivery missions offered to our partner deliverers, a fair price that takes into account the vehicle, distance and time is gradually deployed. We are also working towards ever greater price transparency where every detail will be explained in the application.
In addition to the sustainable projects we work on for our customers and partners, we are convinced that it is also necessary to make a difference on a daily basis. In our opinion, this work is collective and must also be undertaken internally.
How do we constitute this green collective?
Thanks to our internal green commando at Shippr, we want this dynamic core to push our ecological ambitions into concrete actions. The mission of this team is to raise awareness and monitor our environmental practices internally in order to instill a more responsible daily life.
